On Wednesday morning, one passionate question united China's microbloggers: What happened to the big yellow duck?
周三上午，中国的微博用户都在热烈地讨论一个问题：大黄鸭怎么了？
This month, a 54-foot- yellow inflated duck sailed into Victoria Harbor, triggering a jubilant response from tourists and locals and wall-to-wall media coverage, as well as a tidal wave of waterfowl-inspired products. On Wednesday, though, pictures showing the giant duck had evidently melted into a yellow puddle prompted an anguished outcry across social media around the world. '#DEVASTATED, ' ran one hash tag on Twitter. 'Is nothing sacred, ' another user mourned.
本月初，一只约16米高的充气大黄鸭“游入”维多利亚港，引发游客和港人的一片欢腾，媒体也进行了广泛的报道，同时也引发了大黄鸭系列产品的热销风潮。但周三有多幅照片显示大黄鸭已经漏气，变成了一张“黄饼”。这引发全球社交媒体用户一片哀声。推特上的一个话题为"#DEVASTATED,"（意为“令人震惊”）。另一位推特用户哀悼说：Is nothing sacred（没有什么是神圣的）。
Microbloggers in mainland China, though, seemed particularly affected. By Wednesday noon, the hashtag 'Big Yellow Duck' had shot up to the No. 1 position as the most blogged-about topic on Sina Weibo. (The hash tag 'Little Yellow Duck, ' another term of endearment for the oversize toy, meanwhile occupied the No. 3 position.)
不过，中国内地的微博用户收到的反应似乎特别热烈。截至周三中午，“大黄鸭漏气倒下”已经成为新浪微博最热话题。
'Who shot and killed the duck and turned it into duck soup?' wrote one distressed microblogger.
一位微博用户写道，谁射杀了大黄鸭，变成一锅鸭汤了。
Some mourned the fact that they hadn't managed to take a photo with the duck before its untimely deflation. 'Don't die! I still haven't had the chance to make a pilgrimage and come worship you, big yellow duck, ' wrote another user, adding multiple weeping-face emoticons to evoke her distress. (Others used emoticons of lit candles to display similar feelings.)
还有一些人则为自己未能在大黄鸭漏气前与其合影感到悲伤。一位微博用户写道：别死，我还准备去朝拜你的，大黄鸭。这位用户还在这句话前加了两个哭泣的表情以表达自己的难过之情（其它用户则用蜡烛图标表达类似感受）。
Others quickly turned to speculation about what had gone wrong, with many joking that avian flu had felled the bird. 'The duck got bird flu and didn't eat ban lan gen, ' wrote one, citing a traditional Chinese medicine for colds and flu.
其它用户则迅速转向猜测到底出了什么问题。很多人开玩笑说，禽流感击倒了大黄鸭。一位用户写道，大黄鸭得了禽流感，没吃板蓝根。
Some fingered too much love from the crowds as the culprit. 'The duck got played with so much it broke, ' wrote one. Hundreds of thousands of fans have already visited the bird, according to the organizer behind the duck's installation, Harbour City shopping mall.
有些人认为围观人群太过喜欢大黄鸭是其倒下的罪魁祸首。一位微博用户写道，大黄鸭被玩坏了，为什么不捞起来啊？据安装大黄鸭的组织者海港城(Harbour City)购物中心介绍，已有数十万大黄鸭的粉丝看过大黄鸭了。
On Wednesday, Harbour City tried to assuage people's grief. 'We are just doing normal checking, ' said Sandy Lee of Harbour City. 'Because it's Victoria Harbor, the waves are strong, ' which had likely caused any leaking, she said. No vandalism was involved, the mall said.

Ms. Lee said the duck will be fixed as soon as possible.

Prior to its incapacitation, the duck had already prompted numerous web tributes--including its own Cantopop homage--while simultaneously attracting visitors from Singapore to Shanghai.
在漏气前，大黄鸭已经引来网上大量敬意。有人还改编粤语流行歌曲向其致敬。与此同时大黄鸭也吸引了从新加坡到上海的各地游客。
So far, the duck has been on display for more than 10 days, prompting some to joke it had died from working overtime, with a number of users reposting a photo of the crumpled duck with a speech bubble reading, 'The facts prove that continuously working overtime is not good for you!'

Created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, the duck, which has already visited nine countries around the world, is slated to remain in Hong Kong until June 9.
