He eventually founded the pilot training firm FlightSafety International, which he sold to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway for $1.5 billion in cash and stock in 1996.

Casino magnate Kirk Kerkorian, also 95, shaped Las Vegas into what it is today. The eighth grade dropout bought his first land in the city in 1962. He opened the original MGM casino after buying the movie studio in 1969. Kerkorian celebrated his 95th birthday in June with a flash mob surprise set up by his fiancée, Joan Dangerfield, the widow of comedian Rodney Dangerfield.

Truett Cathy, the owner of Chick-fil-A, also cracks 90—and even at that age he still knows how to inspire controversy with his fried chicken chain’s Christian policies and support for anti-gay measures.
